The playtest is free from MCDM: https://www.patreon.com/mcdm/posts/crows-and-2-are-166700479 Bundled as templates/open/crows.pt2.json (the owner's decision, 2026-09-27): the backgrounds, traits, expertises, inventory cards and the rules a player uses, with the Ref Book's stat blocks for the animals and humans a crow keeps as pets or hires, in MCDM's words. Nothing from the Dungeons Book, and none of the Ref Book's monsters or its advice to the Ref. Changes: split into entries by background, trait, expertise, item and rule, with tables written out as lines. Each item's crafting line is kept word for word as its own part. The lines that join the traits of a tree are written out as the names they join. Nothing added, nothing reworded. Players can switch it off in Settings, under Books. Bundled as templates/open/stonetop.book1.json (Stonetop Book I: the nine playbooks, their moves and special possessions, the inserts, basic, special, follower, expedition and homefront moves, gear, followers and the rules a player reads), templates/open/stonetop.book2.json (Stonetop Book II: the 64 minor and 18 major arcana, with the followers they bring) and templates/open/stonetopsteading.book1.json (Stonetop Book I: the steading playbook, its 17 improvements, the draft horses, the steading's rules and the moves its tiles make). Credits, as both books print them: written by Jeremy Strandberg, illustrated by Lucie Arnoux, arranged by Jason Lutes, proofread by Angel Green, Rob Rendell, Matt Wetherbee, John Pham, Steven Quillen, Dennis Taylor & a legion of volunteers from the Stonetop community, published by Lampblack & Brimstone. Stonetop: https://www.lampblackandbrimstone.com Changes: split into entries by playbook, background, instinct, move, possession, item, follower, arcanum and rule, with lists written out as lines and printed tick boxes, load marks and use circles written as symbols. Load marks, use circles, tags, requirements and a set change to max HP are also kept as numbers and words on the entries that have them. Repeated rule and item names take their printed parent heading as a prefix. A pointer to another page is dropped where the entry holds that page. Nothing else added, nothing reworded. Changes in the steading's file: split into entries by improvement, follower, move and rule, with lists written out as lines and printed tick boxes and circles written as symbols. A follower’s numbers, tags, instinct and cost are also kept as numbers and words on the entries that have them. Repeated rule and item names take their printed parent heading as a prefix. A pointer to another page is dropped where the entry holds that page. Nothing else added, nothing reworded. The three files are adapted material under CC BY-SA 4.0: anyone may reuse them under that license, crediting as above. This work includes material from the System Reference Document 5.2.1 (“SRD 5.2.1”) by Wizards of the Coast LLC, available at https://www.dndbeyond.com/srd. The SRD 5.2.1 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License, available at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode. Changes in the SRD 5.2.1 files: Split into entries by class, class feature, subclass, species, species trait, background, feat, spell, weapon, armor, gear, magic item, creature and rule, each with its page. Tables are written out as lines, a row’s cells joined by a middle dot, and a table inside an entry stays in its words. A class’s features table is written out as a rule of its own under its printed title. A rule printed under a heading another rule shares takes its parent heading before its name, and a name of eight words or more is cut shorter. Each entry also carries numbers and short words read from its own text and the tables that list it, such as a weapon’s damage, a spell’s level and school, a feature’s level and a creature’s scores. A spell’s school and its classes follow the spell’s own header where a class list differs (Flaming Sphere, Phantasmal Force, Mind Spike). Bold and italic marks are dropped, and so are hyphens that only break a word at a line’s end. Two notes in square brackets are ours: Telekinesis, whose text breaks off mid-sentence in this document, says so where it stops, and the Archmage’s XP of 8,000, kept as printed, notes that Challenge Rating 12 is 8,400 XP. Where the text names the game by its trademark, three times (Rhythm of Play and Starting at Higher Levels), the words “fifth edition” in square brackets are ours in its place. Everything else is kept as printed, the slips included. Nothing else added, nothing reworded. This work includes material taken from the System Reference Document 5.1 (“SRD 5.1”) by Wizards of the Coast LLC and available at https://dnd.wizards.com/resources/systems-reference-document. Changes in the SRD 5.1 files: Split into entries by class, class feature, subclass, race, racial trait, background, feat, spell, weapon, armor, gear, magic item, creature and rule, each with its page. Tables are written out as lines, a row’s cells joined by a middle dot, and a table inside an entry stays in its words. A rule printed under a heading another rule shares takes its parent heading before its name, a subrace’s trait takes the subrace’s name before its own, and a name of eight words or more is cut shorter. A race’s subrace is an entry of its own, its words and the ability score it raises apart from the race’s. Each entry also carries numbers and short words read from its own text and the tables that list it, such as a weapon’s damage and properties, a spell’s level, school and the class lists that name it, a feature’s level, a domain’s or an oath’s spells by level, a class’s starting equipment and a creature’s scores. Bold and italic marks are dropped, and so are hyphens that only break a word at a line’s end. The Iron Flask’s table ranges take the dashes the page prints, which the text layer drops. Everything else is kept as printed, the slips included. Nothing else added, nothing reworded. The four files are adapted material under CC BY 4.0: anyone may reuse them under that license, with the attribution above. A variant of the MÖRK BORG sheet (templates/pirateborg.json): the game's mechanics and rules (clause 4 names the Spirit ability and the naval rules) and the names of the Dark Caribbean, with page cites. No text or art from the books, no PIRATE BORG logo, no Limithron wizard cap or name logo, and nothing implies an official product. None of the book's text is bundled: its text is a player's own book file. Its weapons, clothing and hats come with the sheet by name, price and number, so one a player rolls lands as one they can use: The names, prices and numbers of the weapons, clothing, armor and hats in PIRATE BORG, pages 50 to 53, by Limithron LLC. The ship's sheet (templates/pirateborgship.json, the naval rules of pages 68 to 85 as numbers and mechanics in our own words, with page cites) takes its vessels, upgrades, specialty crew, sea shanties and cargo by name and number, so a vessel a crew picks or rolls sails with her numbers: The names and numbers of the vessels, upgrades, specialty crew, sea shanties and cargo in PIRATE BORG, pages 69 to 84 and 115, by Limithron LLC. Their license lets anyone use the game’s rules, mechanics and names, and Box of Sheets does. None of the book’s text comes with them. PIRATE BORG is ©2022 Limithron LLC. Changes: each vessel as its name and numbers, each upgrade, specialty crew and shanty as its name and what it does in a few words of our own, each cargo as its name and worth, and each row of the shanty and cargo tables as the name it lands. No words of the book. Players can switch it off in Settings, under Books. CORP BORG — Paweł Kicman/Heltung Storytelling. Mausritter is copyright Losing Games. Mausritter is a product of Losing Games and Isaac Williams. The text of its System Reference Document and of its printable sheets is released under CC BY 4.0, and Box of Sheets carries it under that license. The book’s art and the Losing Games, Games Omnivorous and Mausritter logos are not included. Box of Sheets is not an official Mausritter product, and is not endorsed by Losing Games or Games Omnivorous. Copyright 2025 Isaac Williams. Bundled as templates/open/mausritter.srd.json: the whole System Reference Document, and the words of the condition cards. Changes: split into entries by background, weapon and armour class, item, spell, condition, treasure, hireling, table and rule. Tables are written out as lines, a row’s cells joined by a middle dot, an empty cell as a dash, and a cell left empty under a spanning one written again. Bold marks and link addresses are dropped. The weather the book prints in bold, poor weather for travel, is marked “(highlighted)”, as the book calls it, and the weather table of Running Mausritter takes the marks the Seasons tables print for the same weather. An item’s slots, usage dots, damage, wielding, defence and price are also kept as numbers on it, read from the rules, the price lists and the cards. A thing a background gives that is on no price list takes one slot and three usage dots, as Inventory slots and Usage say most items do. A weapon the book gives as an example of its class, or a card prints, is an item of that class. An essential item keeps the sentences of its block that are about it, a price list’s words after an item’s name are kept as its words, and a clothing line takes its list’s name before it. A piece of treasure keeps its slots and value as numbers and the rest of its brackets as its words. A hireling carries the typical hireling’s numbers and its wages a day. A background’s two items are named Item A and Item B, as the table heads them. Each condition carries its card’s effect, the card’s note on when to give it, and what clears it. Repeated rule names take their printed parent heading as a prefix. The book has no page numbers, so each entry cites its section. The terms of use are this notice. The backgrounds table is written twice, the second time with its items alone, for a weak mouse’s second roll. A birthsign’s disposition is a note on the birthsign’s choice, and the coat’s colours and patterns are the sheet’s choices, so neither is a table here. An improvised weapon carries the number of its special rule, always marking usage after a fight. A lantern and an electric lantern say what refills them, oil and batteries, as the book’s words on them do. Nothing else added, nothing reworded. The licensor offers the text as-is and as-available, with no warranties (the license's section 5). Players can switch it off in Settings, under Books. What this repository carries from those games is names, numbers, mechanics expressed in our own words, and page citations — not the books' prose, tables or art, and nothing generated in their place. A player may add a book's text to their own sheet as a "book pack" built from a copy they own; the app never ships or serves one. The one exception is templates/open/: a book bundled on purpose (free playtest material carried as a fan project with thanks, open content under an open license, a page a license lets anyone recite, or a game's names and numbers with none of its words, as its license allows) is there, one file each with its notice, and its game's row above records those terms. Its line in templates/open/index.js is the switch. Removing it (and bumping the service worker's cache, as every release does) drops the book from the next release, and players may switch it off in Settings. The typefaces in fonts/ are not under the app's MIT license. Each keeps its own terms, and its license or readme sits beside it in fonts/, on the site and in the Owlbear panel alike. Most come under the SIL Open Font License 1.1 (OFL-.txt). Most of those files are format conversions only (TTF to WOFF2, no glyphs removed), so each keeps its name. Outward Block and Terminal Grotesque ship as their authors released them instead, never converted, as a converted file may not keep a Reserved Font Name. The licenses ask for no credit in the app, so the record is here: Barlow Condensed, — Copyright 2017 The Barlow Project Authors (https://github.com/jpt/barlow) Barlow Condensed Italic Alfa Slab One — Copyright 2016 The Alfa Slab One Project Authors (http://www.jmsole.cl | info@jmsole.cl), with Reserved Font Name "Alfa Slab". Terminal Grotesque by Raphaël Bastide, with Jérémy Landes, Velvetyne Type Foundry (fonts/terminal-grotesque.ttf, his release file, unaltered). The copyright line is the font's own, as its license text carries it, and that text whole is fonts/OFL-TerminalGrotesque.txt. The repository's LICENSE.md heads another font, so it is not the one that ships. Four faces are freeware under their authors' own terms, not an open license. Each ships as its author's file, byte for byte: never converted, never subset, never renamed. Their terms bar selling them or putting them in a commercial package, so a fork that is sold must take them out. JSL Blackletter — by Jeffrey S. Lee, copyright (c) 1997-2000, version 2.1 (fonts/JBLACK.TTF). Used under its author's terms: free, unaltered, not in a commercial package, readme at fonts/JBLACK.TXT. The readme travels with the font wherever it is served. Leander — (c) 2010 Tension Type, by Michael Tension (fonts/Leander.ttf). A Tension Type Free Font, used under its license: true and complete copies with the license text beside them, no renaming or changes, embedding in web pages allowed, no distribution for profit. The license is Tension Type's "Leander Licence.txt", its bytes unaltered, at fonts/Leander-Licence.txt (the space in its name a hyphen for a web path). Sebaldus-Gotisch — digitized and hinted by Dieter Steffmann, Kreuztal (Typographer Mediengestaltung, 2002, fonts/Sebaldus-Gotisch.ttf). Fette Trump-Deutsch — after Georg Trump's type of 1936, digitized by Dieter Steffmann, Kreuztal (Typographer Mediengestaltung, 2002, fonts/FetteTrumpDeutsch.ttf). Both Steffmann faces are used under their author's terms: he gives his fonts to everyone for free. The files are served unaltered. What each file says of itself, his words and their source: fonts/STEFFMANN.txt. If you fork or redistribute this project you take on those terms yourself. Chaosium's policy is non-commercial, and all of them forbid implying official status. Keep this notice, keep it free, and keep each game's content in its template file so a publisher's request is a one-file change. Details and sources: docs/licensing/survey.md
